Orchard Road comes alive this Christmas with carols and festivity!
Orchard Road comes alive with carols and Christmas festivity this holiday season. From December 19th to 25th, this main shopping belt will be filled with wise men, shepherds, carols, dance and performances from more than 30 groups from Singapore and around the region.
So, take time off your busy shopping trips to soak in the atmosphere and join in the festivity.
Highlights:
Christmas Floats Galore
A special launch event is organised to mark the opening of this festivity on December 19th at 8pm at Plaza Singapura. That evening, eight beautifully lit Christmas-themed floats will travel along Orchard Road with Guest of Honour Mayor Dr Amy Khor, Mayor, South West District and Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources and guests.
Each night, the floats will start touring the different heartlands. They will stop at various venues to spread the Christmas cheer to the different communities through skits, musicals and carols.
Christmas Village
Take a trip back to the days of the wise men and shepherds at Plaza Singapura and learn about Christmas as they narrate the Christmas Story to the young and old.
Street of songs, dance and drama
Christmas shopping along Orchard Road is fun during this period. As you travel from mall to mall, take time to soak in the festivity. Local and overseas groups will stage performances along various parts of Orchard Road. Be entertained with Christmas carols, dance and drama.
These stages are located at Orchard Walkway (fronting Wisma Atria) , Paragon, Tangs, Tong Building and Plaza Singapura.
Christmas Day Grand Concert
Do come with your family and friends to enjoy this special, two-hour Christmas Concert titled “The Spirit of Christmas” at 8pm located on Orchard Road between Scotts and Bideford Road (which will be closed on Christmas Day for this special concert). Guest of Honour Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Minister of State for Finance will grace the evnet and special guests for this event include friends from underprivileged families, senior citizen homes and orphanages in Singapore.
Other highlights include ethnic group performers from around the world such as Taiwanese dance troupe “Ah Mei”, the Hawaiian Performance Team, New Zealand Trio and Indonesian Choir. The closing highlight is a group from Australia known as “The Angels are Architects.”
